there will be fudge

inspired by the christmas parties yet ahead this season and this post on serious eats, i spent a couple of hours today stirring up marshmallow cream, butter, sugar, and evaporated milk in a thick-bottomed saucepan until they had been boiling for five minutes. adding the white chocolate, rum, vanilla, nutmeg, and walnuts made these eggnog treats deeeelicious!

after the fudge had cooled in a pan, i tested it out and it hadn't firmed up nearly enough. i left it in the fridge while i went to pick up my new boots and have sushi with my dad. when i got home, the fudge was firm enough to cut and jar up, but still pretty sticky. oh, but have i mentioned? it was yuuuummy!

i'm hoping to make another batch next week and split it into two, half gingerbread and half peppermint! alongside today's eggnog fudge, this will make a lovely host gift!
